The rectangular cubed "white block" is used by many Professionals for buffing nails. These blocks surfaced in the 1990's as a superior substitute to the black square finishing blocks that were in use. Contrary to belief, the white blocks leave a granular residue just as the black blocks; however, black blocks have a carbide (black) abrasive surface while white blocks have a silica (white) abrasive surface. The grit residue is there but hard to see. These blocks (both types) originated from England and were created to sand drywall in the building trade. To our knowledge all blocks of this type, to this day, are being made overseas. We looked into the manufacturing but conceded it to be cheaper to import from the original quality source. As the popularity of the white block grew, manufacturing competition evolved from Korea and China against England. The blocks we have evaluated from the Orient do not match up to the British product-but they are cheaper and provide a resource for our competitors who sell by price instead of quality. Our mission has always been to provide the best product in spite of the cost. White blocks will yellow from moisture and sunlight. The blocks from the Orient, in our opinion, yellow substantially compared to the original British product. Some will say the yellowed blocks work just the same except discolored. We find the yellowed blocks are more brittle (break and/or tear) because the adhesives cauterize from moisture. The Orient uses different adhesives. We use the British block exclusively in spite of the fact they cost more, but quality has no compromise. We also believe your distributor should not compromise you. Contact us and we will advise you of a distributor that carries our white blocks. It may most you a few pennies more-but! We introduced Sand Turtle abrasives in 1995 as the superior alternative to blocks. We created and do make the Sand Turtles here in the United States. One (1) Sand Turtle will outlast 20 white blocks, do the same job, if not better and they can be disinfected. In conclusion, you have choices-quality blocks-Sand Turtles. Contact us and we will send you, the Licensed Professional, one (1) free sample of the Sand Turtle for your evaluation. One (1) Sand Turtle per License number-Offer expires February 1, 2003.
